Selfies, drelfies, nudies – and most recently, YouNow.com, where you can live-stream the everyday lives of the young: the Internet is full of people documenting their own lives for us. Why, and above all how, do we present our most intimate selves?
In her texts, author and actress Laura de Weck condenses social policy into its most fundamental unit: the interpersonal dialogue. Her rhythmic vignettes of everyday life premiered at the Theater Basel (most recently, Für die Nacht ("For the Night"), 2011).
De Weck surfs the various networks for us, social and otherwise, documenting self-documentation. Ranging from personal home pages to politicised nudies, De Weck will read from her dialogues, arguing that it's not dangerous for the private to become public, but it is dangerous when the public appears to be private.
